Sephora - Retail in Action
Sephora's mission is to create and advocate for the future of more sustainable beauty, alongside our community of consumers and brands.
- Caring For The Climate
As a global brand, Sephora has a duty to reimagine their impact on the planet. - Proudly, Sephora is on track to reduce the carbon footprint (Scope 1 & 2 CO2 emissions) of their stores, headquarters, and distribution centers by 50% by 2026.
- They’ve implemented energy-saving solutions, such as more efficient lighting in stores and other facilities across the globe. And they have already achieved 100% renewable energy in various markets, including France and the United States, with more markets to come.
- Sephora uses best practice tools and third party assessors to help track reductions in their indirect emissions across the whole value chain, and hold ourselves accountable to their progress.
Responsible Sourcing
- Sephora believes they have a responsibility to use their scale for greater good.
- Sephora communicates the LVMH Supplier Code of Conduct to all suppliers, with a focus on labour standards, social responsibility, environmental protection and business ethics.
- Moreover, they've partnered with leading supply chain experts to monitor suppliers' practices for compliance to their shared goals.
Ecodesign and Production Transparency
- Sephora’s clients expect that the products they purchase are not just more effective, but are also kinder to the planet.
- Their responsible product labelling programs highlight products with natural, safe, vegan, and eco-designed packaging.
- Today, over 25% of their sales in Europe and the US are a part of this selection.
They pledge to update these programs as the science evolves, challenging the industry to innovate, while giving consumers the confidence to make informed choices.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- They're always striving to reduce waste in our stores and in their operations.
- Their key focus areas are retail marketing, e-commerce, and store construction.
- Moreover, Sephora is committed to optimizing the end of life of their products; the “take-back” solution for empty beauty packaging started in France in 2016 is expanding globally and since its inception, 56% of our stores have take-back schemes and 81 tonnes of beauty empties were collected in 2023.
- They also give their unused products a second lease on life, either via reuse or as a giving them to charities in need. This way, every year over one million products are diverted from waste.
